Leben.

Life.

Reinhold Traxl (*18.05.1944 in Austria) is a painter and sculptor.

Traxl received his training from 1960 to 1964 at the HTL Innsbruck
School of Sculpture and from 1964 to 1970 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in
the fields of painting, sculpture and architecture under Wotruba, Avramidis and
Plischke.

At the same time, several stays in Paris brought him into contact with
Serge Poliakoff. Traxl deals extensively with him as well as with Mondrian and
Rothko in his painting, just as with Brancusi, Giacometti and Judd in his
sculpture.

Traxl lives and works in Italy and Belgium.
Combining space, light and colour is essential to his work.
In Italy, the proximity to Piero della Francesca’s Frescoes, which are harbingers of modern art, stimulates his work. The barren landscape of Tuscany’s Crete Senesi forces Traxl to reduce everything to its essentials.
The light of Flanders inspires the colour white in his work.

Life in the North and South can be felt in his works – their cultural
contexts ever present. At the core of his inquiry lies the tension between the
concrete on the one hand and the abstract and serendipitous on the other.

Characteristic of Traxl’s oeuvre is the fusion of opposites.
